Ian White from the Wendys is my pal on FB, he says (I'm paraphrasing here): "so weird, I'd love to have one of these. They never pressed an actual commercial 7" for it". :)
One of the most obscure records i've posted on the blog, promo release only, i don't have any info how many copies were pressed.
Fantastic band, one of my favourites from early 90's period.
Wow! I heard this existed but figured I'd never find it. Thanks for this rare gem!
:-)
This is pure magic that you've given us. Back when I was running A-sides, B-sides and Seasides I was on a mad hunt for this and never came across it, so it didn't make it onto that compilation for the blog. It's nice to finally hear that b-side. I've been waiting for years. Essentially, this is like having a new Wendys recording more than 20 years on! Thank you thank you thank you.
There is still one more Wendys rarity out there. It's a song called 'Do Anything' that was on some weird compilation called "Volnitza" (Worst Of The 1 In 12 Club Vol 6/7)
One day, I hope...
Excellent post, loved The Wendys. One of the 90s great shouldve-beens. Thanks!
Original title of Do Anything was 'sickbag spinster'
Rand, i didn't know about this track "Do Anything" until now, i checked this compilation Volnitza on discogs, very strange compilation, all bands are unknown and new to me.
I tried to find any info on the net about this track, but nothing, i want to be 100% sure that this is Wendys track.
Who knows, maybe one day we'll find this rare track :)
Any chance of a re-up of this? Cheers!
Heya, Ricky. The song is definitely by The actual Wendys. I talked to Ian White. He had this to say...
"Volnitza - Yes that was us pre-factory. There are maybe around a dozen or so other tracks that probably will not see the light of day as some of us would rather it stayed that way. For me, I'd probably make about 6-8 of them available someday... hey that sounds like an album ;-)"
Hi Rand,
Thanks for the info, i hope someday The Wendys will release cd album with these unreleased tracks & demos :)
I've tried to find copy of that track from Volnitza compilation. There are cheap copies for sell on discogs, but it's a really strange compilation, i never heard of other artists on this album, i'm not sure it will be wise to purchase only for The Wendys track.
If anyone have cassette demos, unreleased material or live recordings, please contact me or leave comment here.
