Wild About Nothing - Wide (White Label Promo)

WILD ABOUT NOTHING
WIDE
1991 Not On Label

Notes :
Wild About Nothing were a baggy-sounding indie band from Waterloo in South London around 1991. A four-piece band, they featured Scott (vocals and guitar), Andy (bass and backing vocals), Nick (drums and backing vocals) and Andy (guitar).
They only released one record, a one-sided 12'' of their song - Wide. Also they did interview for The Marmite Roll fanzine in 1991. It's really hard to find any info on the net so i've asked fanzine owner to tell me more about this obscure baggy band :

''They were a nice bunch of lads, quite lary and loud though. I remember they liked Flowered Up, which I think Wide is not too far from. Never saw them play live, but I remember that I interviewed them in their local pub, The Shipwright Arms, in Tooley St, London Bridge. The white label record came in a plain white sleeve, but it did have a corner sticker on it, which said something like 'Wild About Nothing, live in '91'. It wasn't on a label as such as it was self-produced ''

Really great song, if you are fan of early 90's indie & baggy music, must have this record in your collection.

01. Wide

Hi Ricky,

Happy days - I found the interview and will scan it and send it over tomorrow.

Here's a few more details though... the interview took place on 24th July 1991 at the Shipwright Arms pub in London Bridge. Wild About Nothing were Scott (vocals, guitar), Andy (bass, backing vocals), Nick (drums, backing vocals) and Andy (guitar).

They had recently seen Top and Northside live, but really didn't think much of the growing shoegaze scene, as you'll see tomorrow!

You can catch the full interview in the latest edition of The Marmite Roll, which was on sale, er, 23 years ago. So it's probably sold out. But no worries, I'll scan it and you can upload it to your blog if you like.

Have a good evening, all!

Cheers.

Will

Will,

Great stuff, thanks for the interview and all the info about Wild About Nothing.
Very promising band, shame they didn't recorded more tracks. Or maybe someone have demos and unreleased stuff?

I've uploaded "WIDE" single & The Marmite Roll fanzine interview, links in the next comment :)

It still doesn't work for me. All other zippyshare links work for me. Oh well.

Hey Anonymous, I'd be happy to help you with that - let me know how I can get it to you.

I actually interviewed your dad's band in a pub in Waterloo way back then for a fanzine I ran. I can give you a scan of the interview too. I remember them being a good bunch of lads.

Cheers,

Woody

Hi Woody, that would be amazing - thank you so much! What would be best for you?

I know he still sees his old band mates, so I think they’ll be chuffed to know people still remember them. And I can imagine they were pretty arrogant lads too! Hahaha!

Hello again,

Email would probably be easiest but I doubt either of us would want to put our email addresses on the internet.

So I've done a wetransfer link for you, but it only lasts for a week, so please download it before then.

httpswe.tlt-sMOooRBsFD

I doubt your dad would remember me or the interview, but please say hello from me.

Would be interested to know if they recorded any more music, or ever did anything else in music.

What are they all up to now? Hope life's been good to all of them.

If you or them want, you can contact me at last.fm or Twitter, using WoodyCAFC.

Take care.

WoodyCAFC, please post the correct link. I have problems to open wetransfer link.
I can re-upload single but can't find interview at the moment.

It's great that one of the band member's daughter is on the blog. Will be happy to help her with digital copy of this fantastic single. And interview with the band.

Sorry Ricky, I don’t know what the correct link is? All I could think of doing was a wetransfer. I can email the interview to you again - are you still on the same email from 2014?

ricky said...

my email: evibes72@yahoo.com

You have same rip (128 kbps) you sent me back in 2014? Or you have new one, in higher bitrate ?

WoodyCAFC said...

Cool, I’ll email you now. I’ve since got it higher, now at 256kbps

Does your father have some demos or unreleased or live or radio stuff by this band? Please, ask him and share with us

Thank you so much for all of your help - really blown away, never thought in a million years would ever listen to a digital version of the band’s song! Really does sum up the best of the internet.

Might have to frame the front cover of The Marmite Roll for him! I know one of the band has loads of stuff - will have to ask him to send it over and see if there’s anything else stored away.

Once again, on behalf of myself, my dad and the rest of the band, thank you.

They all saw each other last week for the first time in ages! Think they miss it and are very tempted to get back into it again hahaha
