They really one of those what-might-have-been bands. At Glastonbury 92 they played a number of new tunes, – Better Life being one of them – and the new material was knocking spots off the old stuff, really dubby and heavy-sounding. It's pretty rare to go and see a band and prefer the stuff you don't know, and I distinctly remember thinking that if this was their new sound then it's going to be great. Not long after that, though, they'd split up. I had a pretty decent radio recording of that set, actually, probably in a box somewhere. The Orb were on that day, and Primal Scream headlined.
I remember when I first saw the video from them I was like "can we copy the Mondays even more?" and for years hated the band until they grew on me as I appreciated more of the bands of the era...

Thanks, I've only ever heard a life with Brian.

great record. sad loss.
great tune, this would have been a really interesting direction to follow if they had stayed together....
